Bengaluru, 28 November 2025-Garden City University (GCU) successfully hosted Namma Nimma Cinema, a vibrant showcase of short films, documentaries, and experimental cinema created by emerging student filmmakers. The event, held at the GCU Auditorium, celebrated creative storytelling, visual experimentation, and collaborative student production.


The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Sheeja MS, Registrar, Garden City University, who highlighted the unique impact of the medium of cinema. She expressed her delight at witnessing the dedication and imagination of the young filmmakers, noting that “cinema is a powerful medium, and it is inspiring to see how sincerely our students have worked to bring their stories to life. It is heartening to witness young storytellers using film to express meaningful ideas.”


A major highlight of the day was the unveiling of the official GCU Productions logo, led by Dr. Sheeja MS (Registrar), Dr. Biju Dharmapalan (Academic Dean), and Dr. Subramanian N (Head, School of Media Studies). The launch marks a new chapter in the university’s efforts to support student-led content creation and professional- quality media production.


Addressing the gathering, Prof. Kaushik P. Kanchan encouraged students to see the platform as an avenue for exploration and innovation. He added that those with unique and compelling ideas are welcome to collaborate with the GCU Production House to bring their concepts to life. The screening featured 11 student-produced films, each exploring themes such as friendship, love, maternal bonds, and light-hearted comedy. The audience responded enthusiastically to the diversity of concepts and narrative styles presented.


Following the screening, student crew members engaged in an interactive discussion with the audience, sharing their creative processes, challenges, inspirations, and behind-the-scenes experiences. The exchange underscored the collaborative learning environment fostered by the School of Media Studies.


Garden City University continues to expand opportunities for students
to engage with contemporary media practices, nurturing a new generation of creators equipped with both technical skills and storytelling insight.
